The Saint-Germain Knot

The neighborhood of Saint-Germain-des-Prés has being the intellectual cradle in Paris for more than a century. In the 1930's, the October group among whom the actress Sylvia Bataille, would breathe life into the proletarian theater at the famous Café de Flore. A decade later, the philosopher, political activist and feminist theorist Simone de Beauvoir became a regular. In the 1960's, the New Wave with Jane Fonda or Brigitte Bardot sit alongside with the Nouveau Roman group. May Françoise Sagan have written a few lines of Hello Sadness at Café de Flore?
