Portrait #3 - Julie
For this serie of Portraits of Parisian girls, I want to show you how Parisian girls around me wear silk accessories. For this third portrait, I meet with Julie in the Jardin du Luxembourg, this gorgeous garden in the 6th arrondissement of Paris that was originally built by Marie de Médicis. The light is magnificent, the begogonias bloom in their pots, and we try to find available chairs near the central pond. With no success.
#1. Julie, let us know what you do ?
I am a lawyer.
#2. What is your favorite neighborhood in Paris ?
It was for quite a long time La Buttes aux Cailles, and it is now the Batignolles, where I just moved in.
#3. Something personal that you like to do in Paris ?
I love the small art house cinemas which broadcasts old movies like the Champo or the Reflet Médicis.
#4. If your favorite district were a song?
« Si tu vois ma mère », from Sidney Bechett.
#5. Your favorite Parisian gourmet adresse ?
La Fourmi Ailée ("The winged ant"), a former ancient library transformed into a restaurant and a tea salon, just near the cathedral Notre Dame de Paris. It is a very welcoming and cozy place filled with books, from floor to ceiling. The tea and pastry menu is outstanding.
#6. A secret Parisian spot you would like to share ?
It is not much of a secret anymore but I really enjoy Les Grands Voisins ("The great neighbors"), the former complex of the Saint-Vincent-de-Paul hospital in Denfert-Rochereau which was transformed into a small utopian village : you can find accomodation for emergency refugees, associative premises and artistics projects in a very unique atmosphere.
